Spring in the Rockies means dandelions, and where there are dandelions, the bears are never far away.
This young grizzly rose out of a meadow to investigate something downwind. He paused for a moment, standing perfectly still, before sinking back into the flowers and returning to his lunch.
I photographed this bear in the spring of 2026 and I believe it is the same bear featured in my photograph “Standing Tall,” taken two years earlier. It was an exciting moment to see him again, looking healthy and thriving in the wild.
