On a frigid winter day, I was lucky enough to capture this handsome male Northern Cardinal just as he was preparing to lift off from the snowy ground. With his wings beginning to spread and his brilliant red feathers standing out beautifully against the blanket of white, he looked absolutely stunning! I loved being able to freeze this split-second moment, just before he took flight. Despite the bitter cold, this little beauty brought such a wonderful splash of colour to the winter landscape. It's moments like these that make winter wildlife photography so rewarding!
