Puffins spend most of their lives at sea, where they roam the open ocean alone or in loose groups, most often separated from their mates. Only when spring returns do they come back to land and reunite at their breeding colonies. Standing quietly at the edge of this cliff, gazing toward the endless ocean, this puffin seems almost contemplative. Is it simply watching the waves or longing for the freedom of the open sea?
